UIN SYEP
Success Story – Medical Assistant Program
A member of the Navajo Nation, Michelle Aguilar has been
with UIN since June 2010, as a participant with UIN’s Native SYEP, and was
hired to work at the Native American Health
Center - Oakland as the medical records specialist
during Native SYEP. Her duties included:
front desk receptionist, answering multiple phone lines, filing, prepping,
sorting, delivering creating medical records as directed, maintaining a
physical and computer filing system, contacting patients/clients regarding
appointments, attending Native Community Events and attending NAHC in-house
training. Michelle’s invaluable work experience
at NAHC has helped her to become a self-sufficient and productive member of the
Bay Area Native Community. She is
currently attending the medical records certificate collaborative program
through the NAHC, and the Unity Council in Oakland, CA.
